A Clean Closet Is Nice To Look At, But Did You Know That It Can Also Save You Time, Money, And Frustration?
Clean closets are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also just plain practical. Think back to this morning – how long did it take you to choose an outfit? When you know exactly what’s in your closet and where everything is, it saves you lots of time in the morning when you’re getting ready for the day. Plus, you lose the need to buy multiple articles of clothing because you can’t find what you need. And when you’re saving money, saving time, and looking good, you feel good!
The best part is that anyone and everyone can have a clean closet. When you follow the 5 tips below, you can achieve a clean, organized closet and keep it that way in no time!
Start with just 30 minutes. It’s common to feel overwhelmed when starting any organizing project. But, the best way to get over that feeling is to start small. Set a timer for 30 minutes and see how much you can get done in that timeframe. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to keep going!
Remove the easy stuff first. Is there anything that’s torn, stained, or faded? If yes, throw these items away first. (Alternatively, you can cut up the clothes and use them as cleaning rags).
Create 4 piles: keep, store, donate, trash. Next, designate 4 areas to organize your wardrobe. Put the items you definitely want to keep into one spot. Another area should be for things to put into storage (like seasonal clothes).Put any clothes that are in wearable condition, but not your style into the donate pile. Last is the pile for trash, which is anything else that should be thrown away that wasn’t previously discarded.
Turn hangers backwards. A good rule of thumb is to get rid of any clothes you haven’t worn in 6 months or more (with the exception of seasonal clothing). If you turn your hangers backwards (so the open hook part faces you) as you put clothes back into your closet after decluttering, you’ll be able to quickly tell which items you wore and which items you didn’t wear at the end of the year — the items you didn’t wear will still be hanging backwards.
Put one in, take one out. If you’re worried about how long your newly organized closet will last, try taking out one article of clothing for every new piece you add. Doing this will help you stay clutter-free and mindful of what’s in your wardrobe.
Now that your wardrobe is decluttered and your closet is organized, don’t you feel refreshed?
